28 May, 2019

The Abu Dhabi Awards, a Government initiative that honors unsung heroes who have selflessly dedicated their time to helping others and positively impacted the Abu Dhabi community, has announced that nominations are now open for its 10th edition.

Held under the guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Awards are calling on the citizens and residents of the UAE to come forward with nominations. Known as the emirate’s highest civilian honor, the Abu Dhabi Awards can be bestowed upon anyone regardless of their age, gender, nationality or place of residency. The single and only criteria that nominees must fulfill is to have made a positive contribution towards the emirate and community of Abu Dhabi. The nomination period will take place from 27 May 2019 until 31 December 2019.

This year’s Awards campaign seeks to activate goodness across the emirate, promoting the power of good deeds to create a ripple effect and inspiring others within the community to pay it forward through their own acts of kindness. In line with the pay it forward ethos, this year’s Awards are set to host a series of community events and initiatives, ranging from community development, social responsibility and environmental awareness.

This year’s nominations have been made easier than ever - simply by visiting the Abu Dhabi Awards website www.abudhabiawards.ae, where you can submit your nomination virtually at any time.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s edition, Eisa Al Subousi, member of the Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee, said: “After nine editions, we are excited to be adopting a totally new approach for what will no doubt be a very unique 10th cycle of the Abu Dhabi awards this year. With an engaging programme of events lined up to activate goodness across the emirate, we earnestly look forward to empowering citizens and residents with the opportunity to give back to their communities – something that couldn’t be more fitting of the spirit of the Awards.”

Since its inception, the Abu Dhabi Awards have recognized 80 unsung heroes, from 16 different nationalities, who have made a positive impact on society in the emirate. To date, the Awards have garnered over a quarter of a million nominations, representing 135 nationalities. Previous Award recipients have made valuable contributions towards the community, spanning a myriad of fields including medical research, lifetime achievements, overseas humanitarian relief as well as the preservation of the UAE and Abu Dhabi’s heritage.

The Abu Dhabi Awards were established in 2005 upon the directive of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. Inspired by the Founding Father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s belief in the innate kindness and generosity of his people, the Abu Dhabi Awards stand as a testament to the late founding father’s humanitarian legacy.

The Abu Dhabi Awards Organizing Committee will be evaluating all nomination entries over the next seven months, producing a shortlist of the most qualified nominees. The Committee will then further examines each nomination to create a detailed study on the work and contribution of each individual. Following a rigorous review process, recipients will then be selected and announced at the official Abu Dhabi Awards ceremony slated to take place in early 2020.
